Advocacy and Education Fund staffers are now working with the new federal Election Assistance Commission, providing information on issues such as voter registration forms, election security and provisional balloting.

The National Lobby Corps, founded in 1971, is a group of dedicated League members from the Washington metropolitan area whose goal is to amplify the League's voice on Capitol Hill. For more than 30 years, the Lobby Corps has brought hundreds of issues to members of Congress. The group is briefed on specific issues once a month by the Advocacy staff before going to the Hill. "Each time the Lobby Corps lobbies on the Hill, we win," says Lobby Corps Chair Carole Conors. Most recently, the Lobby Corps urged key Senators to cosponsor S. 1709, the Security and Freedom Ensured Act (See Hill Bulletin, p. 4).

This spring, the League joined coalition partners in successfully opposing the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act" in the Senate. The League was concerned that this bill provided the firearms industry with special legal immunity that undermined public safety and blocked efforts to improve gun safety. Also in the spring, the March for Women's Lives, cosponsored by the League, brought hundreds of League members from all over the country to Washington, DC.
