Advert fame is too good to be chew.

ROCK singer Jamie Hartman has written songs for Natalie Imbruglia, Will Young and Emma Bunton.

But it wasn't until he penned a track for a brand of chewing gum that he became a star.

Jamie is frontman of Ben's Brother, who kick off their UK tour with a headline gig at King Tut's in Glasgow tomorrow night.

Key song in their set will be new single Stuttering (Kiss Me Again), which is released on April 21.

It shot to No. 22 in the US the charts - selling 75,000 copies - after being used on an advert for Dentyne gum.

Jamie now hopes to match that success on home soil.

He said: "A friend is a song plugger in America and he placed it with the agency making the Dentyne commercial.

"It was between us and Muse to see who got the gig. I thought we had no chance."

Former Beatle Ringo Starr has named Ben's Brother his favourite new band and they have had tracks used in hit TV show Grey's Anatomy and movie Sisterhood Of The Travelling Pants 2.

Jamie said: "When people first saw the ad they didn't know the band or the song.

"They had to surf the internet to find out.

"Within a week we were getting 10,000 hits a day on our Myspace website.

"The song has taken on a life of its own - fans have made their own videos for it."

Jamie first played Tut's in 2006 supporting his mate, Scots singer singer Jill Jackson.

He said: "We like to kick off tours in Glasgow because it sets you up nicely. The crowd is always very warm."
