A July 2009 meeting held in Romania brought together technical scientists, life scientists, and medical doctors to share the latest technology for robotics in healthcare and rehabilitation, and other assistive and recuperative technologies for medical patients. The range of topics covered is broad across diverse technologies, and includes the development of materials and structures, robotics and prosthetic devices, information technologies, and organ and issue preservation banks. Other areas covered include neuro-robotics, biofeedback devices, human genetic engineering, brain implants, stem cell engineering, and bio-artificial organs. Some of the robotics areas examined include therapeutic and surgery robots for remote operation procedures, assistive and caregiving robots, endo- and exo-prosthetic devices and technologies for restoring functionality and mobility, brain-machine interfaces, and intelligent information processing in new devices and robots. The book includes b&w photos, images, and illustrations. There is no subject index.
