SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 2003

Newest and Most Innovative Eye Care Product

Unique Formulation Helps Prevent Dryness and Supports Ocular Health

Advanced Medical Optics, Inc. (AMO) (NYSE:AVO), a global leader in ophthalmic surgical devices and eye care products, announced it is launching COMPLETE(R) MoisturePLUS(TM) multi-purpose solution (MPS), its newest and most innovative product in its eye care business, in North America and European markets. It is the first and only multi-purpose contact lens solution with a unique formulation that helps prevent dryness and discomfort associated with contact lens wear -- the single largest reason cited by soft contact lens wearers for no longer choosing to wear contacts.

"COMPLETE(R) MoisturePLUS(TM) MPS builds a moisture shield in and around the contact lens for a difference that's very real and very tangible to contact lens wearers," said David Noon, vice president of Eye Care sales and marketing for AMO North America. "This difference is tangible whether they are experiencing dryness or just seeking the most comfortable contact lens wearing experience."

COMPLETE(R) MoisturePLUS(TM) MPS contains specially formulated tear technology ingredients such as the dual lubricants hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and propylene glycol (PG), essential electrolytes such as potassium chloride and sodium phosphate, and taurine, an amino acid, that help support ocular health and a healthier contact lens wearing experience. It also contains time-released moisture, to keep contact lenses just as comfortable at the end of the day as at the beginning. Because of its four hour soak time and its no-rub formulation, COMPLETE(R) MoisturePLUS(TM) MPS is a convenient multi-purpose solution for any soft contact lens wearer.

"New COMPLETE(R) MoisturePLUS(TM) represents a breakthrough in the way that multi-purpose formulations are approached," said Milton M. Hom, O.D., FAAO. "The product represents a shift away from concentrating simply on lethality and more on overall comfort and corneal health. In my own experience, COMPLETE(R) MoisturePLUS(TM) has clearly demonstrated the potential to make a huge difference in comfort among my contact lens patients."

"We are very excited about introducing this unique and innovative product to the market," said James V. Mazzo, president and CEO of AMO. "This is another example of our commitment to providing leading edge technologies that address clear market needs."

COMPLETE(R) MoisturePLUS(TM) MPS is available in the eye care section at mass retail, grocery and drug stores nationwide.
