Adeel hits back at PM over KBD statement.

PESHAWAR, Aug. 13 -- Senior vice president of Awami National Party Haji Muhammad Adeel has strongly condemned the statement of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani that the colossal losses due to the recent flood in the country could have been averted had Kalabagh Dam been built.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Adeel said it seemed that prime minister was issuing statements to save Punjab.

He said if the prime minister had an aerial visit of the flood affected areas of the province, he would not have given such statement which clearly showed his sympathy and love only for Punjab.

Adeel said had Kalabagh dam been made, the floodwater would compounded the crisis in Nowshera, Charsadda and surrounding areas.

The ANP leader said it would be far better if the prime minister had announced to construct small dams at places from where the water came and destroyed the whole province.

He said if Bhasha dam and Munda dam had been constructed and the Warsak dam had been cleaned, the province would be safe.

The ANP vice president said if small dams had been constructed, the flood water instead of wrecking destruction, would then be used for agricultural and hydel power generation purposes.

He said the federal government should announce long-term policies for overcoming the energy crisis in the country.

Haji Adeel said the province had badly affected due to flood but neither the federal government nor the NDMA announced a relief package for it, nor declared it calamity-hit province.

He demanded of the federal government to immediately pay the arrears of net hydel power to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa enabling the province to face the post-flood situation.
