Adapted cars for cop dogs; Letters extra.

SERGEANT Dean Reid, of Warwickshire Police Dog Section, responded to my letter regarding the tragic deaths of the two police dogs left in a hot car, by bringing along one of their 20 working dogs, Joe, a rescued cocker spaniel.

Joe is three-and-a-half years old, lively, highly intelligent and lives at home with his handler.

We were also able to see the specially commissioned Skoda Octavia estate car which carries two police dogs. Warwickshire has four of these air-conditioned vehicles and has piped air-conditioning with an air vent.

It is supplemented with a roof fan which can draw warm air out and blow cold air in. I was glad that Warwickshire had secured a high standard of animal welfare by buying these up-to-date special cars. Hopefully the same idea will be taken up by other counties in the UK.
