Adams telephone raises funds for the American red cross.
Adams Communications donated 10,000 pre-paid calling cards, which will be sold by volunteers, businesses and schools, with all proceeds going toward the fund.
"As soon as the crisis hit, we all wanted to step up and make an effort that would have an impact," said Becky Mentesti, director of business development at Adams. "The calling card was a useful product that people could use, and it fit the niche of people wanting to stay connected to family and friends."
Adams Communications employees contacted local schools, businesses, banks and clubs to participate in the project, named "Neighbors Serving Neighbors...Answering the Call." Each organization was asked to sell the 50-minute calling card, valued at $10, which features a patriotic design and the project's theme.
So far, the project has been well received throughout the community, Mentesti said. The local media even provided a T.N. spot highlighting Adams' fund-raising efforts.
"You can't go anywhere in our community without seeing the posters or calling cards," she said. "Our board is leading the campaign by selling the cards in their businesses and through other community efforts."
For example, a college is selling the cards at sporting events. Some people are selling them door-to-door. Parents are buying them as stocking stuffers. A local bank even bought 50 calling cards for giveaways.
"We update the calling card Web site daily to thank everyone publicly," Mentesti said. "Whatever we sell will be a success."
