Adacel Selects Quantum3D AAlchemy and OpenGVS for USAF TSS Program; Adacel to Employ AAlchemy Image Generators With OpenGVS Realtime Scene Management Software on Largest ATC Training Program Ever Awarded.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Quantum3D(TM), Inc., a leading provider of open architecture realtime 3D visual computing solutions for the Visual Simulation and Training (VST) and Embedded Visual Computing (EVC) markets, announced today at the Image Conference 2002, that Adacel Technologies, Ltd, a leading developer of advanced software and systems for air traffic control systems and related training systems applications, has selected Quantum3D's AAlchemy(TM) advanced, open architecture image generators and OpenGVS(TM) realtime scene management software for use on the synthetic environment realtime training systems that Adacel will be developing and deploying on the United States Air Force (USAF) Tower Simulation System (TSS) program which Adacel was recently awarded. TSS is the largest air traffic control (ATC) training and simulation program awarded to date, and will entail the deployment of comprehensive synthetic environment realtime training systems at USAF locations worldwide. This major new design win represents a continuation of Adacel and Quantum3D's long standing business relationship and provides another a multi-million dollar, multi-year contract for Quantum3D.

"TSS is one of the most advanced ATC training systems on the market today and the requirements levied by the program stressed the need for the IG to provide state-of-the-art image quality and performance, coupled with outstanding cost-of-ownership, P3I and obsolescence management," said Lionel Leveille, President and CEO of Adacel. "Adacel has been working with Quantum3D's open architecture IG products for several years now, and the combination of Adacel's air traffic control and air traffic management training software and program experience, combined with Quantum3D's IG systems and software and commitment to life cycle management has once again resulted in a successful program win. We look forward to working with Quantum3D as we deliver on this crucial USAF program."

The TSS program required a comprehensive solution that could provide USAF air traffic controllers with the tools needed to achieve and maintain proficiency in the skills required to manage the airspace in a military ATC environment. For TSS, Quantum3D is providing Adacel with over 600 AAlchemy high-fidelity out-the-window channels. AAlchemy was the only open architecture PC-based IG that met USAF requirements for visual acuity, which is crucial for aircraft recognition and identification at FAA and USAF specified ranges, by providing the combination of high resolution (up to 1600 x 1200 pixels per channel) and rotated grid anti-aliasing (either 4 or 8 sub-pixel samples) concurrently with the OpenGVS realtime scene management software, provide the fill rate and polygon performance required to achieve sustained frame rates which are mandated by the program. In addition, AAlchemy features Quantum3D's unique SwapLock(TM) technology, which provides pixel-level inter-channel synchronization to minimize inter-channel artifacts that cause negative training in juxtaposed display, wide-field-of-view applications. AAlchemy also supports custom resolutions for JVC D-ILA projectors, which are widely used in the ATC market and provide a key component of the Adacel solution.

"Adacel has one of the strongest ATC teams on the planet and we see our highly successful partnership with them for this market as a tremendous validation of both our open architecture IG technology and our business model in which we partner with leading integrators and solution providers for key visual simulation, training and embedded visual computing markets," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and vice president of sales and marketing. "Rather than competing with our customers, we team with them, and together we can provide the best combination of technology, experience and value. We've now won six major programs with Adacel to date, and we extremely proud to be part of this important win today. All of us at Quantum3D look forward to helping Adacel deliver this crucial capability to the USAF over the next several years."
