Employers Gain Control Over Benefit Expenditures and Mitigate Risks Using Actuate Self-Service Absence Management Applications

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ:ACTU), the world leader in Enterprise Reporting and Performance Management Applications that empower 100% of users to achieve breakthrough corporate performance, today announced that Matrix Absence Management, a nationwide company partnering with employers to provide customized absence management services, has selected the Actuate Enterprise Reporting Application Platform as its customer self-service solution for reporting. The Matrix eServices application, created and managed by the Actuate Enterprise Reporting Platform, provides employers with a single self-service access point for ad-hoc reporting, dashboards, and summary information on their absence management programs. Matrix consolidates information from its lines of business and presents a single interface to the customer, which enables in-depth analysis of benefit claim trends, improves customer satisfaction and increases business efficiency.

Absence management is a competitive and highly regulated service industry with tight margins. Benefits administrators and human resource personnel expect a constant flow of information, but require that information be presented in a very user-friendly and customizable way. Using technology effectively and creating constant value are key factors to bolstering customer satisfaction in the benefits management market.

Matrix uses the Actuate reporting platform to provide powerful self-service reporting to 1,500 registered users across the company's Disability, Leave of Absence and Workers Compensation services. Matrix has provided a customized user interface and has recently, added both ad-hoc reporting and dashboard capabilities within the overall client reporting solution. Ad-hoc reporting allows benefits administrators and human resources professionals to conduct custom in-depth analysis of information. The client dashboard provides a roll-up summary of program information and enables customers to drill-down through the graphical interface to view details across their entire absence program.

"Actuate's technology has helped differentiate Matrix's offering in the market," said Gordon Smith, CIO of Matrix Absence Management. "With the Actuate reporting platform, our self-service solution is able to constantly evolve, providing on-going business value to our customers. Offering employers an easy-to-use, self-service application that provides real-time benefit analysis has demonstrated to the market that Matrix is a company with a strong technology vision and the ability to execute."

Matrix eServices has enabled the company to consolidate absence information in a single customer reporting application. Matrix eServices has become a vehicle for account managers to gather feedback from their clients, improving customer relationships by fostering increased communication. The company has also been able to eliminate the costly process of printing and distributing thousands of paper reports to its customer base. Matrix's web-based customer self-service strategy has allowed the company to enhance business efficiency by consolidating information, augmenting customer service, and eliminating paper reports.

"We are proud to be a core part of Matrix's strategy for continuously improving operations and communication with their customers," said Pete Cittadini, CEO and president of Actuate. "Actuate is committed to helping companies create effective customer self-service applications that enhance customer retention through high-performance, flexible and easy-to-use reporting applications."
