Actress waits.

PROSECUTORS in Los Angeles were today considering whether to press shoplifting and drug possession charges against actress Winona Ryder.

The Girl, Interrupted star was arrested on Wednesday night in an upmarket Beverly Hills store after allegedly attempting to steal more than pounds 3,500 worth of clothes, hair accessories and a handbag.

She was also found in possession of a prescription drug, which the New York Daily News reported was antidepressant Zoloft, without a valid prescription.

But Ryder's lawyer, Mark Geragos, said there had been "a misunderstanding" and the 30-year-old was innocent of the shoplifting claims.
