Activities still available at district sports centre.

A GREAT deal of publicity has been given to the opening of the new Huddersfield Leisure Centre in the town centre.

However, Almondbury councillor Linda Wilkinson is reminding residents there is an excellent Kirklees Council sports facility available in Almondbury.

Situated at Fernside Avenue on the Community School site is Almondbury Sports Centre.

The centre is open to the public every Monday to Thursday from 5.15pm to 10.15pm and Sundays from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

It has a sports hall with cricket lanes, a dance studio and two glass-backed squash courts available for hire, alongside a recently refurbished gym with membership priced at just PS10 per month.

Among the sessions on offer are Bodypump, Pilates classes on Thursdays, coach-led badminton sessions for beginners/improvers every Wednesday at 6.15pm, followed by coach led table tennis sessions at 7.15pm.

A weekly wheelchair sports session is hosted every Thursday at 5.15pm. For juniors, there is Taekwando on Monday and Wednesday evenings, basketball on Sunday at 11.30am, Doorstep into Sport multi-sport sessions on Mondays, FA Tesco skills football sessions and dance sessions on Tuesday evenings.
