Combined Solution Provides a Seamless Flow of Information

Between Competitive Local Exchange Carriers and Suppliers,

Automating the Supply Chain

Active Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASWX), a leading provider of eBusiness infrastructure software products, and NightFire Software, Inc., pioneer of e-infrastructure solutions for broadband service deployment, today announced a strategic partnership to provide rapid eBusiness solutions to the communications industry. The combined solution will provide a seamless flow of information between the systems of competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) and suppliers such as incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs), facilitating the rapid exchange of preordering and ordering information with existing customer care and billing applications. As a result, CLECs will be able to automate their supply chain and efficiently manage their operations with suppliers.

The NightFire and Active Software solution will enable CLECs to:

-- rapidly deploy end-to-end order processing, allowing CLECs and

their suppliers to quickly access data in real-time at any

point in the supply chain regardless of their specific

-- automate preordering and ordering processes for unbundled

local loops and other services from suppliers including

incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) and inter-exchange

carriers (IXCs), allowing CLECs to obtain accurate and

up-to-date product information from their business trading

The NightFire/Active Software solution will be demonstrated at Telestrategies' Billing 2000 at Active Software's booth No. 122. The demonstration will show how an order is managed across the entire supply chain by automating ordering processes and seamlessly exchanging ordering information between NightFire(TM) SupplierExpress(R) and Siebel and Portal applications. The NightFire/Active Software solution will be available in Q4 2000.

"Automating business transactions across the entire value chain is crucial for CLECs trying to grow fast while keeping customers satisfied," said Keith Giarman, vice president, Worldwide Field Operations, NightFire. "Active Software is a proven leader in providing a fast path to eBusiness by integrating robust multi-vendor solutions. The NightFire/Active Software partnership enables CLECs to seamlessly integrate NightFire's solutions for automating business transactions across the entire broadband value chain -- from the customer to the DSL reseller to the service provider -- with best-of-breed OSS solutions."

"In today's highly competitive communications market, carriers and suppliers of communication services need to seamlessly exchange information across the supply chain in real time," said Chet Kapoor, vice president, Business Development, Active Software. "ActiveWorks' broad scope of connectivity and ease of use will enable NightFire to provide communication providers with an effective value chain integration solution."
