Gallagher outlines how to improve the acoustics of a recording studio. He explains the fundamentals of acoustics and solving problems; materials that can be used, including common household items; materials that don't work; choosing a room; layout; and noise control and sound isolation. Discussions of converting a home office, basement, bedroom, and bonus room are accompanied by diagrams, which are also provided throughout the text. He closes with descriptions of the recording booth and machine room. There is no bibliography, but a list of web resources is included. Gallagher is a guitarist, recording and live sound engineer, instructor, and composer who has served as editor for EQ Magazine and Keyboard Magazine.
