Acer to Offer Iomega Notebook Zip Drive Option Worldwide.

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1997--Iomega Corporation (NYSE:IOM) today announced that Acer, Inc., one of the world's largest PC manufacturers, plans to offer Iomega notebook Zip drives as an optional feature in selected models of its notebook product line worldwide.

The notebook Zip drive has been specifically designed for OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to include in notebook computers. Using 100-megabyte Zip disks, the notebook Zip drive gives users 70 times the capacity and up to 20 times the speed of floppy disks. Acer's notebook computers with Zip drive support are expected to be available before the end of 1997.

"Acer's support of the Zip drive is a clear demonstration of Iomega's leadership in the personal storage market, and increases Zip's momentum as the emerging standard for personal storage," said Mike Lynch, director of OEM business for Iomega Asia Pacific. "Acer's leading position in the Asia Pacific market place will help Iomega make even greater strides into this fast growing and exciting region."

"The Zip drive option will offer our notebook customers the high capacity and performance they need to make mobile computing easier," said Brian Chong, Acer director, product management division. "This notebook computer offering will be of particular value to the increasing number of mobile users with multimedia applications, presentations, and file exchange needs with their desktop computers."

Iomega has established relationships with notebook computer manufacturers Chicony, Clevo, Compal, Hitachi, Micron, NEC and Siemens Nixdorf. These companies have announced plans to offer notebook Zip drives as either standard or optional features in selected notebook models.

In addition, the notebook Zip drive is expected to be available later this year from CNF Technologies for notebook computers manufactured by Compaq, IBM and Toshiba; and from VST Technologies for notebook computers manufactured by Apple and IBM.

Iomega's Zip drives can already be found as standard or optional features in selected desktop computers manufactured by the world's leading computer makers including Apple, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Micron, Motorola, Packard Bell/NEC, Power Computing, Sony, UMAX and Unisys.
