SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of a new focus to provide market-driven PC solutions, Acer America Corporation today launched a new line of value notebooks, the Extensa 390 series, built for commercial applications that need "fail-safe, all-around" PC performance, such as with sales force automation applications, as well as for consumers who want all the features of a multimedia desktop integrated into a reliable and affordable notebook that delivers up to four hours of battery life.

"By leveraging our worldwide manufacturing strengths and economies of scale, Acer America is able to design and develop leading computing solutions for both consumer and commercial markets," said Max Wu, president and COO of Acer America. "The new Extensa 390 series continues our heritage of providing `no-compromise' value solutions that incorporate advanced technologies, such as High Contrast DSTN displays and Heuristic Power Management, at price points that satisfy the most discerning budget."

Extensa: High Performance & High Value

Powered by Intel Pentium(R) processors with MMX(TM) technology, the Extensa 390 series includes 133, 150 and 166MHz processors with base EDO RAM configurations of 16MB or 32MB DIMMs, expandable to 128MB. All include a fixed 20x (maximum) CD-ROM drive for greater reliability, a "hot-pluggable" floppy disk drive that connects through the parallel port, integrated 33.6Kbps modems for reliable and easy-to-use communications, fast infra-red wireless communications port and a USB port. Additionally, the hard drives easily remove and can be upgraded to hold larger capacity drives when they become available.

Multimedia applications come to life when viewed on the large 12.1" display and heard from the 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro stereo system. Software MPEG is integrated and two Card Bus (two type II or one type III) PC Card slots provide increased system flexibility.

Everyone will appreciate the Extensa 390's light weight and extended battery life. At 6.5 pounds, the Extensa packs a lot of features in a lean 12.3" x 9.5" x 1.9" design.

High Contrast DSTN Display Advances

Leading the wave of new low cost/high performance dual scan screen technologies, Acer America introduces and integrates High Contrast (HC-DSTN) dual scan technology with several models of the Extensa 390 series. Immediate benefits of the HC-DSTN screens are evidenced by a greater contrast ratio when compared to traditional DSTN screens. With High Contrast screens, the viewer sees a sharper, more crisp image than previously capable with standard dual scan displays.
