Accident occurs in tailing dump of Akhtala mining and concentration plant.

Yerevan. An accident has occurred in the tailing dump of the Akhtala mining and concentration plant.

The Rescue Service of Armenia reports that on Feb 8, at 11:48 am it received an alarm about the accident on the Ayrum-

Chochkan section (Lori region). As a result, the waste started penetrating into the river Debed. The alarm response force of the region

arrived at the scene and found out that leakage had occurred earlier. At the moment no waste inflow to the river is fixed. Measures are

being taken to reveal the circumstances of the accident. The situation is under control.

To remind, the Akhtala plant owned by Metal Prince company has been idle for a long time. On 17 Nov 2011 Chairman of the

Council of Metal Prince and Director General of the Akhtala plant, Serob Ter- Poghosyan, was sentenced to 15 years in jail for sexual

assault against minors. Now his wife is managing the plant.
