Abu Dhabi Industrial Production Index down 24.4pc in Q4.

The Industrial Production Index (IPI), decreased by 24.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared with the same quarter in 2017, falling to 99.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 from 132.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017, according to a report released by Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD) today.

The IPI decreased by 20.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared with the third quarter, where the IPI fell to 99.8 percent in the fourth quarter from 125.6 percent in the third quarter, SCAD noted, according to a Wam news agency report.

The key activity that recorded a decrease during the fourth quarter of 2018 compared with the fourth quarter of 2017, is the "Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products" for which the production quantity decreased by 28.8 percent while contributed 50.9 percent to the overall decrease in the IPI.

During the fourth quarter of 2018 compared to the fourth quarter of 2017, for the group "Manufacture of machinery and equipment" the production quantity decreased by 66.3 percent, and contributed 33.3 percent to the overall decrease. The "Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products" for which the production quantity decreased by 16.5 percent, contributed 11.0 percent in the same period.

The key activity that recorded a decrease in its quantity, during the fourth quarter of 2018 compared with the third quarter was the "Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products" which decreased by 37.8 percent, contributing 95.7 percent to the overall change.

During the fourth quarter of 2018 compared with the third quarter, production quantities for the group "Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products" decreased by 17.2 percent and contributed 14.5 percent to the overall decrease.

In the light of the rapid economic and social development in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, indicators, such as the IPI, are considered important economic indicators that provide accurate data to decision-makers, economists, researchers, policy-makers and other users of official statistics.

The quarterly IPI covers the manufacturing sector (Base year 2012) and is based on the main list of products of the industrial manufacturing activities in the International Standard Industrial Classification-revision 4, ISIC4, which covers all manufacturing economic activities.
