Abu Dhabi's economy gains $630m from ADNEC, AACC events in H1 2019.

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company has confirmed in a statement that the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and Al Ain Convention Centre (AACC) contributed US$630m to the UAE capital's economy in the first half of 2019, marking a 45% increase in its contribution, compared to the same period in 2018.

The statement added that the company's cumulative economic impact rose to AED34.3bn ($9.34bn) since it was established in 2005, according to sister title Arabian Business .

The increase was attributed to hosting two major events on the MICE calendar, according to the statement: the International Defence Exhibition and World Future Energy Summit, both of which were held at ADNEC.

In the first half of 2019, the two venues hosted 29 exhibitions, 108 conferences and events, as well as 88 special events. The venues also supported more than 12,502 jobs in business tourism-related sectors in the first half of 2019.

The venues' surrounding hotels registered 343,100 overnight visitors, the statement added. In H1, ADNEC and AACC welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors, marking an increase of 79%.

Hosting events and being part of the global MICE circuit is an important element for Abu Dhabi's economy: a specialised AED600 million ($163 million) fund was recently launched by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) to enhance Abu Dhabi's portfolio of world-class leisure and business events.
