Absorbent article.

No. 5,820,616; James Horney, assignor to Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, OH. Filed 7/14/97. Issued 10/13/98.

An absorbent article was patented. It is created by a first absorbent article having a periphery with a pair of end edges and a pair of longitudinal edges, a body facing surface and a garment facing surface. The first absorbent article also has a liquid pervious first topsheet, a liquid impervious first backsheet joined to the topsheet and a first absorbent core positioned between the topsheet and backsheet. The absorbent article also has a second absorbent article with a periphery made by a pair of end edges and a pair of longitudinal edges, a body facing surface and a garment facing surface. The second absorbent article also has a liquid pervious second topsheet, a liquid impervious second backsheet joined to the second topsheet and a pair of side flaps created by at least a portion of the second backsheet. The side flaps are folded in over the second topsheet and are releasably secured to the first backsheet of the first absorbent article. A securement means is positioned onto each of the flaps for directly attaching the second absorbent article to the first absorbent article. This is done so that at least a portion of the first backsheet and at least a portion of the second backsheet are releasably and directly secured to one another by the securement means.
