Abseil to help crime victims.

A SPONSORED abseil will raise money for a North East charity.

The Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre (TRCC) will hold a sponsored abseil down the Vermont Hotel, in Newcastle, tomorrow.

The event will see 80 fundraisers take on the challenge.

An arts and craft fair will also take place at Martha's Courtyard and Bar.

Local henna artist Sunaina Kohli will be offering her services to visitors.

There will also be a chance to buy handmade bags, pottery, soaps, candles and jewellery, and enjoy live music throughout the day.

Dawn Bowman, development worker at TRCC, said: "This is a free event open to anyone wanting a different kind of Sunday.

"Come join in the fun from 9.30am to 4.30pm at the Dean Street entrance of the Vermont Hotel."

Money raised will help the centre provid e information, support and counselling.

A similar abseil in 2009 raised pounds 8,000 when 58 people took part.

The latest abseil has been organised with the help of Mobex North East and the Vermont Hotel.
