Abrasives Industries Buys Grinding Wheel Company

Abrasive Industries, Inc., Clearwater, Florida, has bought the French firm of Durrschmidt Abrasives, one of the oldest grinding wheel manufacturers in Europe.

Durrschmidt, in operation since 1864, employs 120 people and has a 180,000-sq-ft factory in Corbas, France, and a sales office in suburban Paris.

Abrasive Industries will continue to manufacture products under the Durrschmidt brand in Corbas. The company, which has sales offices throughout Europe, will relocate its French office from Rungis to Corbas.

Abrasives Industries is an independent, privately owned manufacturer of abrasive grain and grinding wheels, marketed under the Bay State Abrasives, General Abrasives, Sterling Abrasives and Atlantic Abrasives brand names.

The firm has 11 manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.
