Aboriginal youth loans launched.

The first loans have been made to student groups at the Ponoka Outreach High School in Ponoka AB under the Aboriginal Youth Lending Circle program of the Business Development Corporation.

Each group of students will receive financing of up to one thousand dollars per project for their business plan. Members of each group act as guarantors for the project and the loans are interest free.

The Crown corporation has created the Aboriginal Youth Lending Circle program to support youth entrepreneurship in high schools. Backed by the BDC's Aboriginal Banking, Ponoka High School offers students training on entrepreneurship and business and will cover such topics as human resources, financial planning, marketing and problem resolution. The course offers interactive business planning resources and access to mentors online, using BDC's E-Spirit distance learning.
