Abhay's lady love ready to take the lead.
" Shor in the City was a tester for me, which happened in 2011. I decided to take a break as I was learning the art, reading scripts, visiting sets to know more about directors and actors. I needed time to learn more about acting, and also differentiate between a good and a bad script. I was just being patient to not sign anything," says Brit- Indian model cum actress Preeti Desai.
She plays dancer Samara Patel, in the upcoming film which is ready for release on January 31. " My character is that of a very ambitious and passionate dancer. I learnt jazz and ballet for almost five months. Seven days a week I would only dance to get it right. I got bleeding knees, bruises, ballerina foot problems and all sorts of things. But I kept practicing to play my role convincingly." The hard work paid off as she could play the role effortlessly. " Everything was mesmerising, when we started to shoot. It was like a cakewalk as the dance sequences went off smoothly. My postures came out well in each frame." In the film, Preeti is pitted opposite Abhay, her real life lover. The duo has been in a relationship for a couple of years now. Romancing him onscreen was not much difficult for the actress.
" I used to look up to Abhay as a great actor, hence there was a bit of curiosity to work with him. While shooting, we would just get into the characters, leaving our personal equations aside.
We had to convincingly play the emotions of the character," says Preeti.
Abhay has been a guide to Preeti, as she takes baby steps into Bollywood.
" Abhay is a very supportive person and is always there for me. He is never overpowering.
We give space and trust each other. Thanks to Abhay I had an easy access to the sets. I also used to filter scripts for him, reading through all and learn what is good. I feel very content being with him," she says.
" I am currently not at all ready to settle down or have kids. It is not happening anytime soon. I am still not financially stable and have just started my journey. I have a lot of things to do," says Preeti, rubbishing the rumours of marriage or engagement.
" Currently it is my conscious decision to not sign any film. I want film- makers to watch my work first. At the same time I am also going through several interesting scripts," concludes Preeti.
