BAALBEK, Lebanon : A Jordanian national managed to escape from his abductors in northeast Lebanon Monday, days after being kidnapped, a security source told The Daily Star. The source said the Jordanian man had arrived to Lebanon Thursday and took a taxi to go to Beirut. The driver, however, took a different route and handed him to other individuals, who in turn handed him over to a group of fugitives in the city of Baalbek. The source added that the man managed to get away Monday by breaking the bathroom window and jumping from the second floor of the building he was being kept at, in the fugitive hub of Baalbek's Sharawneh neighborhood. He was left with an injury after jumping, and was assisted by an individual in the area who took him to Baalbek's Hikmeh Hospital. The source said that Hezbollah, in charge of security in parts of the Baalbek-Hermel region, informed authorities of the Jordanian individual, who was then transported to the Riyak Hospital in the central Bekaa. It is still unclear why the man was kidnapped and who the abductors are. Security forces have opened an investigation.
