AZTEC MANUFACTURING COMPLETES ACQUISITION TO ADD SIXTH GALVANIZING PLANT

CROWLEY, Texas, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Aztec Manufacturing Co. (NASDAQ: AZTC), manufacturer of electrical products for power generation and provider of galvanizing services, has completed the acquisition of Gulf Coast Galvanizing, Inc., operator of a large galvanizing plant at Citronelle, Ala., near Mobile, L.C. Martin, chairman, president and chief executive officer, announced today. The addition will give Aztec its sixth galvanizing plant, making it one of the nation's largest companies furnishing that service to industry.
The new plant, acquired for about $2.4 million in cash, operates a 42-foot galvanizing kettle and generates sales of more than $2 million annually. It will be Aztec's first galvanizing plant in Alabama. The company currently operates three units in Texas and two in Mississippi. Aztec plans to open a seventh plant in Phoenix later this year.
"Although galvanizing services account for only about 23% of our revenues compared to 68% for electrical products," said Mr. Martin, "galvanizing is a strong generator of cash flow to finance our growth through acquisition -- in electrical products as well as in galvanizing itself. The Citronelle acquisition should increase our galvanizing revenues by 22% and our total revenues by 5%. More importantly, such expansion in this business will bring us substantial benefits in purchasing, marketing, and customer service."
Aztec's electrical products divisions include Rig-A-Lite, Inc., a Houston manufacturer of industrial hazardous lighting fixtures, the Calvert Company, Richland, Miss., one of the world's largest makers of electrical bus duct systems, and Atkinson Industries, Pittsburgh, Kan., which produces factory fabricated electrical power centers. Rig-A-Lite and Calvert were acquired in 1990, and Atkinson in March of last year.
