AZTAR COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF BOAT

PHOENIX, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Aztar Corp. (NYSE: AZR) announced today that the company had completed acquisition of a riverboat for its proposed riverboat casino operation in Caruthersville, Mo.
The company acquired the "West Virginia Belle," which had been serving as a dinner cruise ship at South Charleston, W.Va., from West Virginia Belle Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The three-deck steamboat-replica-style boat was built by Patti Shipyards in Louisiana in 1988. It will be moved to Jeffboat Inc., in Jeffersonville, Ind., for modifications before being moved to Caruthersville. The modifications are scheduled for completion by late spring. Naval architect Rodney Lay of R.E. Lay and Associates, Jacksonville, Fla., will direct the modifications.
Aztar has been recommended by the City Council of Caruthersville to the Missouri Gaming Commission to be licensed to operate a riverboat gaming facility on the Mississippi River in Caruthersville. The company's application for a license is pending with the commission. Aztar previously announced it had entered into an option to acquire 25 acres in downtown Caruthersville for the facility from private parties.
Aztar is a publicly traded company that operates TropWorld Casino and Entertainment Resort in Atlantic City, N.J., the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., and the Ramada Express Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nev.
