AZTAR ANNOUNCES FILING OF APPLICATION FOR MISSOURI RIVERBOAT GAMING LICENSE

 ST. LOUIS, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Aztar Corp. (NYSE: AZR), operator of major casino hotels in three of the country's largest markets, announced that the company filed its application today for a license to operate a riverboat casino in Caruthersville, on the Mississippi River in southeastern Missouri.
 The company also announced it has signed a development agreement with the City of Caruthersville for the riverboat casino facility. The city council voted in early July to recommend to the Missouri Gaming Commission that Aztar be licensed to operate the facility. The license filing with the commission was made on the first day possible under the commission's rules.
 Aztar, with more than $850 million in assets, is a publicly held company whose stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AZR. Aztar operates TropWorld Casino and Entertainment Resort in Atlantic City, N.J., Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, and Ramada Express Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nev. Aztar reported 1992 revenues of $512 million and operating cash flow of $107 million.
