AWT SUBSIDIARY AWARDED MWRA CONTRACT TO DEVELOP CSO MASTER PLAN
WAKEFIELD, Mass., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Metcalf & Eddy, a subsidiary of Air & Water Technologies Corporation (AMEX: AWT) has signed contacts totaling $9.5 million with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) to develop a comprehensive master plan for treatment of combined sewer overflows and also to develop a facilities plan.
Under Phase I of the project, valued at $7 million, the company will develop a system that integrates all facets of the existing system into a master plan. Metcalf & Eddy will determine how best to capture the combined sewer overflows from the system and how to maximize the transport of these flows to the Deer Island Treatment Plant.
Work will include the development of strategies for sewer interceptors, infiltration inflows, combined sewer overflows and actual treatment strategies.
Phase II work, projected at $2.5 million, will involve the development of a facilities plan. Both parts of the project are being conducted under a federal court order that requires the use of an extensive metering program to accurately quantify the amount of the CSO volume.
Project work began in March and will continue until June 1996. Metcalf & Eddy is a world leader in providing environmental treatment and services to industry, municipalities and the federal government, specializing in the fields of water, wastewater, solid waste and hazardous waste. Air & Water Technologies, through its operating units -- Metcalf & Eddy, Research-Cottrell, and Residuals Management -- provides a broad range of environmental services and technologies in the areas of water resource management, air pollution control, and waste by-product disposal and reuse.
