AWFS Vegas Technology Tour: a showcase of innovation: the products featured in the AWFS Vegas Technology Tour will help improve productivity and profitability--a winning combination for today's woodworkers.

Later this month, thousands of woodworkers from across the globe will converge on Las Vegas for the biennial AWFS Fair, to be held July 15-18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

On display in the North and Central Halls will be the latest in equipment, supplies and services that the industry has to offer. With more than 500 exhibitors, and several programs available, attendees will have numerous opportunities to evaluate products and educate themselves on the latest technology and news affecting the woodworking industry.

The show is sponsored by the Association of Woodworking and Furnishings Suppliers. Cost to attend the show is $30 for a four-day pass; no one under the age of 16 will be admitted onto the show floor. For more information, visit or phone AWFS at (800) 956-2937.

Environmental Issues Take Center Stage

The fair offers attendees numerous opportunities to network with peers and industry experts, with a large number of events and seminars highlighting this year's show.

New to AWFS Vegas this year is the Green Desk, an "Ask the Expert" center where attendees can stop by and ask questions related to sustainable manufacturing, certification and regulatory issues affecting the industry. Open during show hours, the desk will be hosted by representatives of nationally recognized environmental organizations and associations, including the Environmental Protection Agency, Composite Panel Assn., Forest Stewardship Council, Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Scientific Certification Systems.

On Friday, July 17, there also will be an industry briefing on "How CARB Affects Your Business and Other News." Among the speakers at the "town-hall" style meeting will be Jim Aguila, manager at the California Air Resources Board, and Chris Leffel, vice president of sales and marketing at Sierra Pine, who has been very involved on behalf of industry in regulation negotiation efforts.

Smart Manufacturing for the Small Shop

Also new to the 2009 AWFS Vegas Fair is the Small Shop Pavilion featuring a complete working cabinet shop. The purpose of the "smartSHOP" will be to demonstrate how technology can be used effectively in a small environment.

The "smartSHOP" will be hosted by industry expert Gero Sassenberg. The products manufactured in the pavilion will be donated to a local charity.
