AUTOMOTIVE DIVISION RECEIVES HIGHEST QUALITY AWARD FROM TOYOTA
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Collins & Aikman's Automotive Division's Old Fort, N.C., plant has received from Toyota Motor Manufacturing's Superior Quality Award. It marks the second consecutive year that the company's plant has received Toyota's highest award for quality.
The award was presented by Fujio Cho, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, during his company's annual supplier banquet in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cho said that the recognition was for performance during the 1991 calendar year. Suppliers were evaluated on product quality, problem resolution skills, and the ability to achieve quality goals established by Toyota Motor Manufacturing.
John Moose, president of Collins & Aikman's North American Automotive Products Group, accepted the award, noting: "It is extremely gratifying to receive this award on behalf of all our team members who have worked so diligently to make this recognition possible."
Ben Treece, Automotive Division Vice President of Operations, says the award is "truly a team achievement."
"While our Old Fort plant is singled out as the recipient of the award, the seeds of quality and service which earned the honor were sown much earlier," Treece says. "Our tufting and carpet finishing teams in Albemarle certainly played a vital part in the achievement, as did many others along the line. The Toyota Superior Quality Award truly reflects the commitment to excellence throughout our organization.
"It is particularly pleasing to be recognized by TMM as the only recipient among their parts suppliers this year, and the only company to receive the award two years running," Treece says.
Subsequently, the award was presented to the Old Fort Plant's team members by Iwao Itoh, Vice President and General Manager of Purchasing for TMM, during a special visit to the plant.
