 DETROIT, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1992 Cadillac Seville STS emerges from a distinguished group of new cars introduced this year to win Automobile Magazine's third annual Automobile of the Year, unveiled in the January 1992 "All Stars" issue.
 Editorial Director David E. Davis, Jr., today presented the award to John Grettenberger, vice president General Motors Corporation/general manager Cadillac Division, at the opening of the North American International Automobile Show here.
 The fifth annual "All Stars" issue highlights the 11 most noteworthy cars offered in the United States as chosen by the editors of Automobile Magazine.
 "We launched this magazine in 1986 with the rallying cry, 'No Boring Cars,'" writes Davis, founder and editor. "Therefore, when we set out to honor a small group of cars, it should be safe to assume that those cars will be as noteworthy for their ability to provide automotive pleasure as for their plain workday virtues."
 The 1992 All Stars are: Acura NSX, BMW 325i, Chevrolet Corvette LT1, Lexus ES300, Lexus SC400, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Nissan NX2000, Nissan 300ZX Turbo, Porsche 968 and Subaru SVX.
 This year's winners had two additional hurdles to overcome (in addition to impressing the editorial staff): each had to be available for sale at the time of nomination (not pre-production prototypes) and none could be "gas guzzlers" as defined by the federal government.
 "This cost us some exciting models from consideration, but we honestly believe this is the only way for this magazine to go," said Davis. "Superfast, superheavy, superexpensive cars getting lousy gas mileage are answers to a question no consumer ever asked."
 Automobile Magazine enters 1992 running contrary to magazine industry trends. The enthusiast publication reached the half-million circulation mark last year on its fifth birthday and begins 1992 with a 525,000 circulation base. Consumer interest has been mirrored by advertising support as the magazine was one of the few major titles to post ad-page gains for 1991.
