AUTOINFO FIRST QUARTER REVENUE UP 70 PERCENT,
NET OPERATING INCOME INCREASES TO $.05 FROM $.04 PER SHARE
FAIR LAWN, N.J., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- AutoInfo, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUTO) announced today that net income for the first quarter of fiscal 1993 ended Aug. 31, 1992, rose 14 percent to $332,000, or $.05 per share, from $292,000, or $.04 per share, for the first quarter of fiscal 1992. For last year's first quarter, the company utilized its remaining net operating loss carryforwards of $134,000, or $.02 per share, resulting in reported net income of $426,000, or $.06 per share, for the period. Revenue increased 70 percent to $4,382,000 from $2,577,000 a year ago.
Martin Rubin, president, noted that in addition to strong revenue growth in the company's existing businesses, approximately $1 million of the first quarter revenue gain was attributable to the acquisition in October 1991 of COMPASS Communications, a supplier of voice communications services, and the creation in December 1991 of NAC/AutoInfo, a joint venture with National Automotive Certification, which provides photo inspection services to the automobile insurance industry.
"The NAC/AutoInfo joint venture recently was awarded its first contract from a major insurance company to provide automobile photo inspection services in New York" Rubin said. This also is expected to help expand the joint venture's business with current New Jersey insurance clients into the New York market.
Rubin also said that the company's Orion Network won a five-year contract to build and maintain a satellite communications network for the state of California Auto Dismantlers Association. He said that AutoInfo already has signed 150 new clients, raising Orion's total California network to 235 auto salvage yards. The new network is expected to begin operating in November 1992. He stated that this is potentially a very significantly source of growth for Orion.
AutoInfo provides computer and information services to the vehicle collision and repair industries. More than 2,500 auto salvage dealers, 750 body shops and 500 paint and parts distributors utilize the company's communications networks, computer software and proprietary databases. The company operates one of the largest satellite networks in North America and provides services to the 15 largest automobile insurance carriers.
