AUTOINFO, INC. THIRD QUARTER NET INCOME INCREASES MORE THAN 230 PERCENT TO $.07 PER SHARE FROM $.02 PER SHARE ON 34 PERCENT REVENUE GAIN

FAIR LAWN, N.J., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- AutoInfo, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUTO) announced today that net income for the third quarter of fiscal 1993 ended Feb. 28, 1993, rose 230 percent to $488,000, or $.07 per share, from $148,000, or $.02 per share, for the third quarter of fiscal 1992. Revenue increased 34 percent to $4,997,000 compared to $3,725,000 in the prior year period.
President Scott Zecher attributed the sharp improvement in third quarter results to gains in virtually all of the company's lines of business. "We are especially pleased that revenue from our Orion satellite communications network and sales of Checkmate computer workstations and associated support services grew approximately 30 percent during the current quarter compared to last year's third quarter."
"Our profitability has dramatically improved this year due to the growth in revenue and the integration of the acquisitions completed during fiscal 1992," Zecher noted.
Zecher added that 80 auto salvage yards joined Orion's program with the state of California Auto Dismantlers Association during the third quarter, raising the company's California network to 340 yards. This growth further strengthens AutoInfo's position as the largest provider of satellite communications services to the auto salvage industry" he said.
For the first nine months of fiscal 1993, net income increased 69 percent to $1,239,000, or $.17 per share, from $734,000, or $.10 per share, for the first nine months of fiscal 1992. AutoInfo utilized its remaining net operating loss carryforwards of $134,000, or $.02 per share resulting in reported income of $869,000, or $.12 per share, in the prior year period. Revenue rose 56 percent to $14,082,000 from $9,049,000 for the same period a year earlier.
AutoInfo provides computer and information services to the vehicle collision and repair industries. More than 3,000 auto salvage dealers, 800 body shops, and 600 paint and parts distributors use the company's communications networks, computer software, and proprietary databases. The company operates one of the largest satellite networks in North America and provides services to the 15 largest automobile insurance carriers in the United States.
