"It gives all of us a tremendous sense of accomplishment to have reached the 1 million milestone. AutoAlliance vehicles -- the Mazda MX-6, the Ford Probe, and the Mazda 626 -- are driven and enjoyed by customers all over North America and overseas," stated AutoAlliance President Mamoru Takebayashi. The vehicle, which was driven off the line by Takebayashi, UAW Local 3000 President Phil Keeling, and Mazda Motor of America President Kazuo "Sonny" Sonoguchi, will be delivered to Rosenthal Motors in Tyson's Corner, Va.
Sonoguchi praised AutoAlliance employees for their achievement. "Without you, there would not be a 1-millionth vehicle; there would not have been even one," he said.
Among the attendees at the ceremony were representatives from 47 original suppliers who have served the Flat Rock plant since the start of production. AutoAlliance local suppliers now number more than 150, attesting to the company's efforts to increase the local content of its vehicles to more than 75 percent.
AutoAlliance International, Inc., a joint venture since last June between Mazda Motor Corporation and Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), is a fully integrated manufacturing facility, producing body stampings and plastic components in addition to automobile assembly. It employs 3,700 people.
