AUTO SAFETY SHOW STARRING 'VINCE & LARRY' DEMONSTRATES AIR BAGS AT SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 20 ~PRNewswire~ -- Crash test dummies "Vince & Larry," best known for their humorous automobile safety messages on behalf of the U.S. Department of Transportation, are promoting the benefits of air bags at the Allstate Auto Safety Show Starring Vince & Larry. The exhibit will appear Nov. 21 through Nov. 28 at the San Francisco International Auto Show.
During the six-minute show, life-size robotic versions of Vince & Larry demonstrate how air bags can be lifesavers in frontal automobile crashes. They may be dummies, but Vince & Larry know that nearly 22,000 people are killed each year in the front seats of passenger cars, and they encourage motorists to use the "winning combination" of safety belts and air bags to reduce the risk of injury in a collision.
Larry, seated in a crash test sled equipped with an air bag, is slowly pulled to the top of a steep incline. Meanwhile, Vince, who operates the controls of the crash test, assures his anxious friend that the air bag will make his life as a crash test dummy much softer.
Suddenly, Vince releases the sled, sending Larry on a rapid ride downward into a crash barrier at the base of the track. At the moment of impact, the air bag deploys, demonstrating how the safety device would work in an actual front-end collision.
Larry doesn't suffer a scratch, but Vince reminds the audience that only dummies think air bags alone can protect them from injury during an automobile crash. He stresses that air bags are designed to work in conjunction with safety belts.
Vince & Larry's demonstration is followed by a five-minute video tape which presents information on how air bags work.
The 11-minute show will run continuously during auto show hours: 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. every day.
