AUTO EXECS, LOCAL CELEBS PITCH FOR LOCAL AUTO DEALER, CHARITY
DETROIT, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Auto executives and competitive auto dealers will join local celebrities this week as Conyers-Riverside Ford celebrates its Second Annual Celebrity All-Star Sales Event. The event marks the first anniversary of its 20,000-square-foot, $1 million Truck and Bus Center.
Today's celebrity salespersons will include Ross Roberts, vice president/GM of Ford Motor Company (5:30 p.m.), Judge Myron Wahls (2 p.m.), Judge Wendy Cooley (5 p.m.), and auto dealers Mel Farr of Mel Farr Ford, Walt Douglas of Avis Ford and Al Bennett of Al Bennett Ford in Flint, Mich.
The six-day event will showcase the moonlighting ability of some of Detroit's most recognizable names and faces as they participate as auto salespersons. If they sell a new or used car or truck, then Conyers- Riverside Ford will donate $500 in the celebrity salesperson's name to the charity of the salesperson's choice. Last year, more than 75 local celebrities participated, including Detroit Mayor Coleman A. Young, who was successful in selling a new Ford Explorer. Approximately $2,000 was donated to local charities as a result of the celebrity salespersons' efforts.
The event will run today (Monday, July 20) through Friday (July 24) from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will feature such celebrity salespersons as Michigan Bell Vice President Charles Boyce, MichCon Director Leon Atchinson, Detroit City Councilpersons Gil Hill, Jack Kelley and Kay Everett, media personalities Al Allen of WJBK and John Mason of WJLB, and Detroit Piston Darrell Walker, among many others to be announced.
Conyers-Riverside Ford is at 1833 E. Jefferson Ave., just west of St. Aubin in Detroit and is the only minority-owned auto dealership in the city. With 84 employees, the dealership posted more than 25 million in sales in 1991, and projects 1992 sales of $30 million.
