AUTO CLUB OFFERS RELIEF FROM 'LOCKOUTS'
SAN FRANCISCO, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Many drivers have

experienced the sickening feeling that follows the closing of their car door and the sight of their car keys -- which they left in the ignition or on the car seat. Northern California's largest auto club has unveiled a new service that can protect motorists from this expensive and frustrating problem.
On March 1, the California State Automobile Association (CSAA) unveiled a plastic "credit card key." The key, which is available for most late model cars, fits easily in a wallet or purse, and will open a locked car door. CSAA members get one complimentary key and pay a nominal fee for extra keys. Keys are cut at each of the auto club's 72 district offices throughout northern and central California and Nevada. Early member response has been very positive.
"Locking the keys in your car is a very annoying experience," said Don Felts, CSAA vice president of Automotive Services. "It can also be dangerous, if you get locked out at night or in an unfamiliar area. We're providing these keys to give members an added measure of safety and to control spiraling emergency roadside service lockout calls."
Technological advances and anti-theft car designs make it harder for consumers without car keys to get into their cars on their own. Lockout calls represented more than $13 million in costs to CSAA in the past two years. "The credit card key will save money, increase safety and minimize inconvenience to our members," Felts concluded.
CSAA provides motoring consumer services to more than 3 million members in California and Nevada.
