AUSPEX NSC300/STORAGETEK DISK PRODUCTS RECEIVE CERTIFICATION.

Auspex Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASPX) and StorageTek (NYSE:STK) receive certification for the Auspex NSc3000 Network Storage Controller, a file-serving platform for Storage Area Networks (SANs), with StorageTek D-Series disk systems. The certification allows StorageTek disk customers to deploy the Auspex NSc3000 as a Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution while using StorageTek disks as a NAS depository.

The certification ensures the functionality, stability, interoperability and fault tolerance of the Auspex platform when used in conjunction with StorageTek's D-Series solutions, in accordance with StorageTek's Basic Functionality and Extended Functionality test plans.

"Auspex's NSc3000 technology gives us the ability to offer a file-serving solution that should be embraced by many of our customers. The NSc3000 integration efforts with our disk solutions enable flexible implementations and provide a high level of functionality," said Tim Steadman, StorageTek director corporate alliances. "This will help simplify storage administration while simultaneously supplying full-featured, enterprise-level file services at relatively low cost."

The Auspex NSc3000 delivers high-performance, cost-effective file services for SANs, based on NAS protocols. Both the standalone NSc3000 and the NSc3000V, a high availability version consisting of clustered controllers with automatic failover capabilities, eliminate the expense of purchasing and managing a conventional NAS appliance with dedicated disk subsystems. This strategy allows enterprises to use their existing storage assets, eliminates the need to deploy and support a completely separate NAS storage architecture, and lowers the total cost of storage ownership.

The Auspex NSc3000 and NSc3000V provide industry-leading performance in excess of 19,700 IOPS in UNIX environments as well as the ability to support thousands of users simultaneously, making the platform suitable both for mid-tier applications and for large enterprise deployments. The NSc3000 and NSc3000V also provide secure UNIX, Windows, Linux and Mac OSX data sharing from a single data image, eliminating the need to create and maintain duplicate data sets.

"This alliance with StorageTek will give users of their disk subsystems a means of increasing the ROI of their Storage Area Networks," said Mark Amelang, director of marketing at Auspex Corporation. "It is another demonstration of the interoperability of our NSc3000 platform and the value of having a universal SAN/NAS gateway."
