 AULANA L. PETERS ELECTED TO MOBIL'S BOARD
 FAIRFAX, Va., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Aulana L. Peters, a partner


with the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, has been elected a member of the board of directors of Mobil Corporation (NYSE: MOB) as of Aug. 1, Allen E. Murray, chairman and chief executive officer of Mobil, announced today.
 The election of Peters brings to 16 the number of directors on the Mobil Corporation board.
 Peters earned a B.A. in philosophy from the College of New Rochelle in 1963 and a J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center in 1973. She joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in 1973 and became a partner and a member of the litigation department in 1980.
 From 1984 to 1988 she was a Commissioner with the Securities and Exchange Commission, following which she returned to Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She maintains offices with the firm in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
 Peters, 50, is a director of The IDS Mutual Funds, 3M Company, and the New York Stock Exchange. She serves as the Exchange liaison on the New York Stock Exchange's Market Regulatory Advisory Committee. She is a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council to the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Board of Advisors to the University of Southern California School of Accounting, and the Board of Counsellors to the University of California Law School.
