AUDIOSCIENCE NAMES NEW PRIMARY CHIP SUPPLIER,
BEGINS IN-HOUSE TESTING OF NEW HEARING SYSTEM
MINNETONKA, Minn., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- AudioScience, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUDS), announced today that it has signed a contract with a new primary supplier of the proprietary integrated CMOS chip being developed for its programmable remote-controlled PRIZM(TM) Hearing System.
"Our original supplier was able to deliver some microchips suitable for prototype testing, but was unable to meet the full design requirements for commercially saleable products within the time frame we had set," said Douglas Jensen, president of AudioScience.
"This represents a delay in bringing the PRIZM Hearing System to market. But we have full confidence in the ability of our new supplier to meet our design requirements and will be working toward a clinical field test, which if all goes according to plan, will begin this summer," according to Jensen.
"The new supplier has been working with AudioScience in a consulting role for several months and has extensive experience in design and development of integrated circuits for programmable systems," Jensen said.
"It has had access to all design work done previously and is rapidly moving the program forward," he said. "While the delay is unfortunate, we are dealing with a technology that we believe will have clear advantages over other systems on the market."
AudioScience also announced that it has begun in-house testing of its first prototype hearing systems. The company said it may also evaluate some devices with outside patients, but that none of the devices will be sold commercially.
AudioScience, Inc. is a developer of programmable hearing systems and medical devices for audiology, otolaryngology and the hearing impaired market.
