Summary: New cycle of Investigative Journalism competition and AUD Short Film competition launched

Staff Report

Dubai: The American University in Dubai (AUD) has launched a new cycle of the Investigative Journalism competition and AUD Short Film competition for 12,000 high school students, it was announced.

The Mohammad Bin Rashid School for Communication (MBRSC) at AUD launched both competitions in association with the Dubai Press Club.

Both competition categories are open to English and Arabic submissions, with the first prize in both competitions to include a full scholarship at MBRSC, said Ali Jaber, Dean of the Mohammad Bin Rashid School of Media. The first three winners will also receive valuable prizes.

The Investigative Journalism competition's criteria requires students to pick a topic or issue that is either local, cultural, social or national and write not more than 1,000 words. Each contestant has to provide, alongside the article, a folder including pictures documenting the investigative research process that led to the investigative piece.

As for the short film competition, students will have to make an original short film of between one to three minutes based on the themes of 'Happiness', 'Brotherhood/Sisterhood', or 'A Day in Your Life'. The story should revolve either around events that demonstrate happiness or a happy lifestyle.

All competition results will be announced during the 2018 Arab Media Forum in April.

Deadline for submissions is March 15. Interested candidates may contact the university.
