BEIRUT: The American University of Beirut Tuesday finalized the Good Samaritan draft law to enforce mandatory CPR training of high school students.

The law was originally drafted last month during a conference titled "Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest: A Medical, Legal, and Public Challenge."

The law also proposes a scheme for Public Access Defibrillator Programs with an aim to increase the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims.

The survival rate of cardiac arrest in Lebanon is currently 5 percent, compared with 30 to 50 percent in Europe, a statement from AUB said.

Lebanese Society of Cardiology President Antoine Sarkis and President-elect Malek Mohammad will be working with the Education and Health ministries on developing a national campaign to raise awareness of the issue, the statement said.
