ATTACHMATE ANNOUNCES EXPANDED TCP/IP CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS

WASHINGTON, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Attachmate Corp., the worldwide market leader in connectivity software, today announced that EXTRA! for Windows will support additional TCP/IP stacks for TN3270 connections through MicroSoft's Windows Socket API (WINSOCK) specification. Additional support will be provided for TCP/IP stacks from major vendors, including Novell, Microsoft, Wollongong, FTP, Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems, 3COM and Beam & Whiteside.
Expanding on its previously announced support of TCP/IP for TN3270, EXTRA! for Windows' support for Winsock 1.1 will allow Windows users the ability to communicate with the host or across the network via any WINSOCK 1.1 compliant implementation of TCP/IP. Furthermore, support for other vendors' TCP/IP stacks provides additional options for the implementation of TCP/IP within an organization.
"Our customers are using a number of different TCP/IP implementations," said Wayne Smith, president and CEO of Attachmate. "We are providing them the option of implementing the one that satisfies their current requirements. This is yet another example of our commitment to provide open system solutions."
Users will be able to choose whichever TCP/IP stack meets the current needs of their networking environment. By providing support for both WINSOCK and other popular stacks, EXTRA! for Windows will give users the flexibility to use their currently-installed stack, while also providing the option to migrate to the WINSOCK support in the future.
EXTRA! for Windows employing WINSOCK and direct TCP/IP support will be available from Attachmate in the summer of 1993 for $425, and for $75 for current EXTRA! for Windows users.
