ATRIX LABORATORIES AND SYNTEX SIGN AGREEMENT

 FORT COLLINS, Colo., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Atrix Laboratories Inc. (NASDAQ: ATRX) and Syntex (U.S.A.) Inc., a subsidiary of Syntex Corp. (NYSE: SYN) have signed an agreement for an undisclosed amount of money whereby Syntex has obtained an option for an exclusive license for Atrix's ATRIGEL(TM) Drug Delivery System in combination with LH-RH antagonists. LH-RH antagonist drugs are being studied for the treatment of prostatic cancer, uterine fibroids, endometriosis and related diseases.
 The agreement follows a period of preliminary research to confirm that Syntex's investigational drug, ganirelix is compatible in the ATRIGEL(TM) System and that the System will provide sustained release of the drug for up to one month. Syntex is seeking a licensee for commercial development. Under the terms of the agreement, either Syntex or its licensee will negotiate with Atrix for use of its ATRIGEL(TM) System in a finished product.

 Atrix Laboratories is a drug delivery company whose cornerstone technology is comprised of the ATRIGEL(TM) Biodegradable Polymer System which can be used for a broad range of applications, including drug delivery, medical devices and the treatment of periodontal diseases.
