ATRIX LABORATORIES AND COLGATE PALMOLIVE TO END MARKETING AGREEMENT

 FORT COLLINS, Colo., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Atrix Laboratories Inc. (NASDAQ: ATRX) announced that Colgate Palmolive has waived its marketing rights to Atrix's Perio Product containing sanguinarine. The Perio Product is under development for the treatment of adult, chronic periodontal disease.
 John E. Urheim, chief executive officer and vice chairman of the board of Atrix stated that, "Colgate indicated to us that this decision was made for strategic business reasons and does not reflect any concerns about the viability of Atrix's technology or its ultimate acceptability in the marketplace. For the foreseeable future, Colgate plans to focus their efforts in traditional areas of product interest where near-term returns on sales effort should be higher."
 Dr. G. Lee Southard, president of Atrix, said, "We understand Colgate's decision and appreciate that Colgate has freed Atrix to negotiate a marketing agreement with another corporate partner which may be more strategically positioned to launch our periodontal products when they are available for marketing. The findings of our clarifying studies regarding our periodontal products will be available very soon and Colgate's decision is independent of the outcome of these studies."
 Atrix is a drug delivery company with a unique, patented, biodegradable drug delivery system that can be utilized for a broad range of drug delivery and medical applications including periodontal disease treatment.
