ATRIX INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES LICENSE AGREEMENT

MINNEAPOLIS, July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Atrix International (NASDAQ: ATXI) today announced that it has entered into a non-exclusive license agreement with Monitel Products Corporation, of Cedar Knolls, N.J. The agreement grants Monitel a non-exclusive license to sell its remote monitoring and reporting devices to the imaging industry, which consists of the photocopier, printer, duplicator and telecopier fields. Monitel will pay royalties to Atrix for use of Atrix's patent relating to remote condition reporting systems.
Atrix President and Chief Executive Officer Steven D. Riedel, commenting on the matter, said, "The company will benefit from royalty payments on a quarterly basis over the duration of the patent. It is estimated by Monitel that the payments will exceed $225,000 in total, plus a non-refundable initial payment of $20,000. In addition, Monitel will become a dealer of the Atrix R3 Remote Monitoring System."
The license agreement with Monitel follows a court decision last week in Atrix's patent infringement litigation against Interactive Technologies, Inc. Atrix previously sued Interactive Technologies for alleged willful infringement of Atrix's patent relating to remote condition reporting systems. Last week, the United States District Court for District of Minnesota granted Atrix's motion for partial summary judgment and dismissed all counterclaims asserted by Interactive Technologies against the company which sought an award of damages. The court also dismissed all of Interactive Technologies affirmative defenses, except for one which the court significantly limited. Alan M. Anderson, Atrix's lead counsel, stated, "The decision substantially reduces the issues remaining for trial, limits Interactive Technologies to one affirmative defense and means that the company no longer faces the risk of an award of damages against it. We view the decision as a very favorable development in the action, which is now ready for trial."
Atrix International, Inc. is a worldwide supplier of tool systems and cleaning products for field service organizations in the office and communication industries. The company assembles custom tool kits and manufactures and markets: vacuums for copier and laser printer maintenance, static protection products, remote monitoring and telemetry systems and printed circuit board transport cases. The company is a distributor of electronic hand tools as well as a full line of instrumentation and diagnostic products.
Atrix International is traded on NASDAQ under the symbol ATXI.
