ATRIA SOFTWARE ANNOUNCES AGREEMENTS WITH HEWLETT-PACKARD
 AND SILICON GRAPHICS
NATICK, Mass., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Atria Software Inc. today announced OEM and distribution agreements with Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) and Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE: SGI), through which the two computer vendors will market and support ClearCase(tm), Atria's software system designed to manage the increasingly complex process of software development.
ClearCase, which is being introduced today, is the industry's most advanced Software Configuration Management system. The agreements with Atria will allow HP and Silicon Graphics to provide their workstation, server and RISC PC customers with a sophisticated software management tool that offers a complete solution to the fundamental problems associated with software development: tracking changes, working in parallel, and managing and providing transparent access to the various versions of software releases.
ClearCase is targeted at the rapidly growing UNIX/open systems marketplace. UNIX workstations, such as the HP Apollo 9000 Series 700 systems and Silicon Graphics' IRIS 4DTM family of RISC-based systems, have emerged as leading platforms for software development.
Atria also announced today that it has entered into marketing partnerships and technology development agreements with four of the industry's leading computer-aided software engineering (CASE) software vendors -- Cadre Technologies Inc., CenterLine Software Inc. (formerly Saber Software), Interactive Development Environments (IDE) Inc. and HP's Software Engineering Systems Division (SESD) -- to provide complete compatibility with industry-leading software engineering tools.
"The endorsement of HP and Silicon Graphics clearly indicates that the UNIX/open systems marketplace has an immediate need for a full-function configuration management system, and that ClearCase is able to fulfill that need," said Paul Levine, president and CEO of Atria Software. "The agreements with HP and Silicon Graphics make ClearCase available to software development teams worldwide, enabling them to build and deliver high quality software products on time and on budget."
"After examining the software configuration management market, we were convinced that ClearCase can effectively solve our customers' configuration management problems," said Gary B. Eichhorn, general manager for HP's Workstation Systems Business Unit. "Because ClearCase is a full-featured system, our customers can use their existing UNIX-based CASE tools efficiently and produce quality software products."
"Adding Atria's ClearCase to the CASEVision development environment underscores the richness of software engineering options for users of Silicon Graphics systems," said Pavan Nigam, director of CASE products at Silicon Graphics. "With this combination, users have a solution to the most common and critical configuration management problems facing today's software developers."
ClearCase simplifies the process of organizing the numerous parts of today's software development projects that are frequently dispersed throughout different networks and locations. It reduces the cost of software development by improving programmer productivity and reducing time-to-market. It also improves the quality of software by ensuring that releases are built with the correct, properly tested components.
Silicon Graphics' agreement with Atria is part of Silicon Graphics CASEVision(tm) strategy, a comprehensive program addressing the CASE needs of technical workstation users. The program provides users with Silicon Graphics software products, including CASEVision/Workshop(tm), the industry's first fully-integrated visual software development environment. CASEVision also encompasses key third-party applications and offers a complete solution for the entire software development process.
ClearCase will be available in June 1992. Initial ClearCase platforms include Sun Microsystems' SPARCstations(tm) and Silicon Graphics' IRIS family of systems. ClearCase will be available on the HP Apollo 9000 Series 700 systems in September.
ClearCase is priced at $4,000 for a single user license, with quantity volume discounts available. Atria Software Inc. develops ClearCase, the premier Software Configuration Management system for the UNIX/open systems marketplace. The company was founded in January 1990 by a group of industry leaders in CASE and UNIX software development. Atria is headquartered in Natick, Mass., with offices in Sacramento, Calif., and Dallas, Texas.
