ATMnet provides Web host and access for Sony Online.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 26, 1996--ATMnet announced that it has signed Sony Online Ventures Inc. as a client for portions of its current Web site, Sony Online, located at www.sony.com

In this capacity, ATMnet will host the Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America areas of the site at its Los Angeles Access Center. To provide high-speed access to these areas within the site, Sony has connected to ATMnet's Internet backbone via a 10-Mbps Ethernet switch.

Sony Online's decision to locate within ATMnet was based on several key factors, including the company's facilities, its backbone structure, lower costs and customer service.

``With ATMnet, Sony Online now has four times the bandwidth and twice the rack space in a secure telecom environment,'' said Scott Lawrence, manager of information services, Sony Online Ventures.

Sony is co-locating its equipment, which consists of multiple Sun Microsystems Sparc 20/Ultra2 servers and several Intel x86 servers, to the ATMnet Access Center in Los Angeles.

``We are pleased that one of the world's leading providers of communication and entertainment products has chosen ATMnet to ensure that consumers can connect to Sony Online quickly and consistently,'' said Jim Browning, president of ATMnet.

Founded in 1995, San Diego-based ATMnet is committed to supporting businesses with bandwidth-intensive intranet and Internet applications. ATMnet maintains the fastest publicly available Internet backbone in the world.

ATMnet Access Centers, established in key geographic areas, provide the ultimate in backbone connectivity for high-traffic servers. Access speeds of up to 155 Mbps are available in a secure environment, with robust power backup and strict environmental control. ATMnet's ATM-intranet service integrates voice, video and data services over a unified Virtual Private Network.

ATMnet is located at 5440 Morehouse Drive, No. 3700, San Diego, Calif. (URL: http://www.atmnet.net).
