ATMOS ENERGY REQUESTS RATE INCREASE IN LOUISIANA SERVICE AREA

ATMOS ENERGY REQUESTS RATE INCREASE IN LOUISIANA SERVICE AREA
DALLAS, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) announced today that it has filed a request with the Louisiana Public Service Commission to increase its annual revenues from rates and service charges by $3.4 million, or 10 percent, in its Trans Louisiana Gas Company service area. The company also announced it expects this increase to be substantially offset to customers by reduced gas cost attributable to renegotiation of its major gas supply contract.
The Louisiana Public Service Commission has one year to consider the revenue request and has approval authority over the supply arrangements.
The increase would affect about 65,000 customers. The company's last rate adjustment was effective in 1987.
"Our request in Louisiana is a part of our review of rates in all of our jurisdictions. The company recently announced revenue increases that have been granted in our Kentucky service area and a portion of our West Texas service area, which will have a positive impact on 1992 earnings," said Charles Vaughan, Atmos chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Vaughan added, "Trans Louisiana Gas Company has worked very diligently to manage costs and expenses, and to operate efficiently."
Atmos Energy Corporation of Dallas provides natural gas service to more than one-half million customers in West Texas, Louisiana and Kentucky through its operating companies -- Energas Company, Trans Louisiana Gas Company and Western Kentucky Gas Company.
