ATMOS ENERGY'S MARKETING OFFICER TO RETIRE

 DALLAS, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) announced today that Bob J. Capps, vice president of marketing, has elected to retire on April 1, 1993.
 Capps, who joined the company in 1960, has served as vice president of marketing since 1989. He had been involved in all phases of natural gas marketing in his career with the company, and has been an active member of the Southern Gas Association and the Texas Gas Association. Atmos' residential gas marketing program received the American Gas Association's top achievement award in 1989.
 "Bob has been instrumental in developing and overseeing the company's residential and commercial marketing activities. He has served this company with distinction, and we will miss his expertise and professionalism," said Atmos Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Charles K. Vaughan in making the announcement.
 The company's residential and commercial marketing functions will be handled by Dan Lindsey, Atmos vice president of technical services, who already has responsibility for industrial marketing.
 Atmos Energy Corporation of Dallas, Texas, provides natural gas service to more than one-half million customers in West Texas, Louisiana and Kentucky through its operating companies -- Energas Company, Trans Louisiana Gas Company and Western Kentucky Gas Company.
